Why I'm Running

Jim Read

Our national politics have become recklessly partisan, and economic opportunities for middle-class Americans have been steadily shrinking.

Our District was hard hit by the mortgage crisis and recession. Government shutdowns and threats of debt default hinder our fragile recovery. Young people entering the job market face an uncertain future. We must invest in education and job skills, support small and medium-sized businesses, and guarantee economic opportunity to the next generation.

If elected I will do everything in my power to restore civic trust and economic opportunity for our community and the nation as a whole.

Issues that are important to me include economic opportunity and fairness. Every working person deserves an opportunity to earn a fair wage.  As a union member, I appreciate Jim’s strong commitment to defend the rights of workers which we Americans have fought so long and hard for.

  • Raise the Wage!

"Raising the minimum wage isn't just the smart thing to do, it’s the right thing to do!"

I joined a Raise the Wage march in Sartell Wednesday, sponsored by the Greater Minnesota Worker Center. One of the organizers, Alisha Williams, spoke powerfully about her own struggle to support a family working 60 hours a week at a low-wage job.  (more...)

I am proud to be working for a candidate who trusts women to make their own healthcare decisions. Another huge issue of mine is the military. My twin sister Emily is a U.S. Marine and just recently received notice she will be stationed in Okinawa, Japan for 2 years...
